With each coming generation of pickup truck, automakers have gotten in the habit of increasing the vehicle’s overall footprint. Not only have trucks grown larger in height and width, but now more than ever trucks are being sold with extra doors. Relegated to lower trim levels, two-door pickups have become more akin to fleet trucks than anything else. Joining the existing lineup of workhorses is the single cab 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD, as pointed out by TFL.

Offered in two trim levels, WT and LT, the single cab Silverado 2500 HD certainly does not offer buyers as luxurious amenities as other models in the lineup. That said, when optioned with the 6.6-liter Duramax diesel V8 and a dually rear axle, this short truck is the most capable Silverado HD you can buy, with a maximum towing capacity of 35,500 pounds. Those figures are likely a result of the Duramax’s impressive outputs of 445 hp and 910 lb-ft of torque.

Should a gasser be more your speed, the single cab Silverado HD is also available with the 6.6-liter gas V8, which produces 401 hp and 464 lb-ft of torque respectively. Each powertrain is available with a sole transmission option: GM’s 10-speed automatic mates up to the diesel, while gasoline powered trucks will carry the 6-speed auto. Four-wheel-drive is available regardless of powertrain or trim level.

The base price for a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD single cab comes in at $35,695, which will get you a rear-drive gas truck in WT trim. The better optioned LT model starts at $39,595, with diesel-equipped WT and LT trucks carrying an $11,990 and a $9890 premium over the respective gas models.

While they might not be as popular as they once were, single cab pickup trucks have a certain style to them that their four-doored stablemates do not. It is always good to see automakers filling out their lineups to accommodate different types of buyers, especially in a segment as large as trucks.

And, of course, let’s not forget about the coolest Chevy HD truck of them all: the Silverado 3500 HD Dually single cab, pictured below.
