The 2021 Chevrolet Camaro will soldier on virtually unchanged, but there are a few items of note. Below is a list of minor changes:
– Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wirelessly across all trims, standard.
– Wild Cherry Tintcoat as a no-cost paint option, at the expense of the low-selling Rally Green Metallic and Garnet Red Tintcoat.
We’re sure that some of you will be happy to hear this news, especially about wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, but there’s more substantial news. For those who care more about performance, the 2021 Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE will receive a 10-speed automatic transmission to compliment the six-speed manual transmission. Previously, the Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE featured a mandatory clutch pedal. Now customers will have a choice, and for those looking for marginal bragging rights, the 10-speed is said to be the quicker transmission of the two when pushed to the limit.
As for the 2020 Chevrolet Camaro, which recently launched, changes included a restyling of the SS front fascia, as well as the introduction of the LT1 trim level. Named after the 6.2L V8 engine under the hood, the Chevy Camaro LT1 is the most affordable V8 muscle car on the market right now. Even cheaper than the less powerful Dodge Challenger with the 5.7L Hemi V8 engine. The trim level will return on the 2021 Chevrolet Camaro.
The future of the Camaro has otherwise taken a major pivot. As we originally reported here at MC&T, the seventh-generation Camaro program that was in the works was put on ice, while sixth-generation programs such as a new Z/28 with a naturally aspirated LT3 V8 engine reminiscent of the legendary LS7 were canceled completely. Internally, the Camaro team has otherwise been disbanded, with a skeleton crew seeing out the lifecycle of the sixth-generation American icon until 2023. Most recently, GM teased a Camaro silhouette floating over a pack of batteries and a set of wheels, which is leading many people to assume the future of the Camaro is an electric one, but details of such a program remain non-existent. But whatever happens next, be sure to know that MC&T will report on it first.
