Dodge is made quite a splash with its Speed Week and Never Lift Campaign. They are closing a chapter and doing away with the Charger and Challenger as we know them in 2023. From there, they debuted new products like the Hornet small SUV, as well as the all-electric Charger Daytona Banshee concept. They’ve also announced that they are bringing back the SRT Hellcat Durango for the 2023 model year. If we rewind the clock, the premise was that Dodge was supposed offer it for the 2021 model year only. But with a few tweaks and some extra plant investment, the Durango SRT Hellcat is back, but the most unlikely people are not happy about it: Dodge’s own customers. One owner has gone as far as seeking legal counsel.
The Drive spoke to alleged Durango Hellcat owner Stacy, who requested to have his last name omitted from public media for the sake of privacy, and he mentions that he felt obligated to stand up to Dodge based on principle alone. He has taken to social media to voice his displeasure and has garnered both supporters and cynics. Currently, Stacy is consulting with an unnamed attorney who believes there’s a valid case for legal action. We’ll see.
The comeback of the Hellcat Durango has effectively diluted the exclusivity of the 2021 model year. When that model was announced, marketing slogans such as “This will be a single year run” and “you’ve only got one shot to buy one” have now become a foundation for Stacy’s argument. The ideal situation would be to not produce any more Hellcat Durango models at all, however Stacy believes that if they go forward with production, 2021 Durango Hellcat owners should be compensated at the very least.
To that end, the MSRP of the 2021 Durango Hellcat was just over $80,000, but they continue to fetch $100,000 on the open market. This means that the 710 horsepower SUV remains highly collectable, and will likely continue to be as time passes.
The 2021 Durango Hellcat was produced in limited numbers, as just over 3,000 of them were built. During the reveal for the 2023 model, Head of Dodge brand Tim Kuniskis was met with encouraging yelps, yells, and a round of applause from those in attendance on day one of Dodge’s Speed Week.
Just do what I did. Ask your lawyer to call headquarters and tell them it goes against what you signed. Allow the lawyers to figure it out. That’s what I did and Dodge is buying back my hellcat, repaying me in full and coming next week to pick it up. But I have 157 acres of off road before she goes back. We already signed the paperwork for them to take it back as it stands and no photos where given. Dodge made a huge mistake and they will pay for it in the end. You don’t announce it’s a one time limit run and then bring it back after you already raped us for over $100,000+ For a car they said was limited. It is a breach in contract. Forget Dodge. They are messing themselves over. Just call it a jailbrake for something. Don’t go down that Ford Mustang BS whole.
Imagine being this guy and thinking voluntarily purchasing an overpriced SUV at his own discretion is equivalent to being “raped”. Imagine being this bent out of shape over a “collectible” Dodge SUV. It’s not a breach of contract – you really truly did only have one shot to buy a 2021 Hellcat Durango. Now another group of schmucks just like you have the chance to do it all over again. This really just reads like some guy looking for an out for his car payments. Calling 100% BS on FCA buying back your Durango – FCA doesn’t do payouts unless it’s absolutely warranted legally, and you’ve won no legal case.
Go grab a box of kleenex and get over yourself. It’s a Dodge, not a Lotus, not a Lamborghini, not a Ferrari. It’s not special and it’ll never be worth what you think the supposed exclusivity values it at.

Just look at what it cost the “Power Broker” dealers to set up for the “Direct Connection” parts and packages that will never see the light of day. Well I do own one. And I do feel lied to by FCA. You dont advertise a vehicle as a 1 year limited production run (check every marketing ad) and then make the same vehicle again. It’s a slap in the face to all who spent hard earned money on something that was advertised as limited 1 model year. To all the mouths without one I say this if you wanted one you should have coughed up the money like the 3000 owners did to have one. I’m in on the class action suit 100 percent. The point is not whether it’s just a dodge. The point is 3000 people were misled and essentially bamboozled by false statements and FCA greed.
Call it something else. Preserve the rarity that was advertised.
To all of you dopes that purchased one of these non-numbered, non-collectible vehicles, for a nickel over sticker, shame on you for your ignorance. Where was your outrage when production was strictly limited to 2000 units and five minutes later it was increased to 3000. That was the time to whine about it. If you are dumb enough to pay $125-150K that’s your problem. Little Timmy has a habit of stretching the truth. “To all the mouths without one”, I suggest that you place your order in 2-3 weeks. Go to the right store, (mine) and order yourself a ‘23 for sticker. Don’t make the same mistake that these geniuses made. Two model years newer / less money. Money saved used to purchase a couple of truckloads of “Kleenex” for our poor, unfortunate friends.
