Dodge dropped a bomb in the form of the 707 hp Hellcat engine in 2015, and it’s been a massive success ever since. It served its purpose as a “halo product” perfectly, renewing interest in the brand from the top down. It has proved so popular, FCA has expanded its use in other models, like the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, and multiple special editions. With the upcoming refresh on the Dodge Durango, a Hellcat version is expected. According to MoparInsiders, the first Dodge Durango Hellcat will be a limited edition model.
MoparInsiders reports it will have a serial numbered badge inside the cabin, like other Dodge limited editions such as the Challenger 50th Anniversary Edition and the Charger Hellcat Daytona 50th Anniversary Edition. This should help build even more excitement for the upcoming Durango Hellcat.
The Dodge Durango Hellcat will come for an updated 2021 Durango. This will be a heavy facelift, with a focus on powertrains. Everything under the performance SRT models will become a mild hybrid, using FCA’s eTourque system. The base engine will be the eTourque Pentastar V6, with a eTourque HEMI V8 optional. The updates should also include mild styling and interior changes.
As far as pricing goes, we’re hoping to see the Durango SRT Hellcat come below the Jeep Cherokee Trackhawk, as is the case with the current 392 Hemi-powered Durango SRT and the 392 Hemi-Powered Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT. That could mean an MSRP of around $80,000 or so. But considering it will be the fastest three-row production SUV on the planet, that doesn’t seem like a lot of money.
Expect the current Durango SRT to stick around, slotting just below the new Hellcat mode, although it may lose the ‘SRT’ badge, considering that’s what happened to the Charger and Challenger 392 models.
