FORD F-150 RAPTOR REPORTED TO DROP SUPERCAB BODY

And More Details On The Next Generation F-150 Emerge

Ford F-150 Raptor

Another day, another future product leak. Today, though, there’s news about everyone’s favorite F-Series truck: the Ford F-150 Raptor. According to Motor Trenda VIN decoder has shown some new information about the next-generation truck, specifically the Ford Raptor.

The VIN decoder listed the different body styles supposedly on offer for the next F-150. There’s 4×2 and 4×4 Regular, SuperCab, and SuperCrew models, and SuperCrew Raptor. This news also implies that, for the first time ever, Ford may be looking to launch a new Raptor at the start of an all-new F-150’s life cycle, rather than another year or two after.

Yet, there appears to bee something missing: a 2021 Ford F-150 Raptor SuperCab. In theory, this means the only way you are getting a next-generation Raptor is with a full size cab. While this may be a bummer for some people, smaller cab configurations don’t sell as well as their four door counterparts, especially when you look at higher price points. Given the Raptor is far from your basic truck, it does make sense for Ford to drop the unpopular body style.

Some powertrain details were also shown in the VIN decoder. And before you ask, no it doesn’t show a V8 Raptor is in the works. It does, however, back up previous leaks that a hybrid F-150 is coming. The system is expected to feature an 3.5 liter V6, and only about 10 miles of electric range.

Finally, the VIN decoder failed to show horsepower for the 3.0 liter six cylinder diesel engine. The current engine produces 250 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque, but Ram and Chevy diesel offerings have more power and torque. This could indicate that Ford will be upping the horsepower of their next-gen F-150.

It should be noted that these VIN decoders are a window into things that are still pending finalization. In due time, the information that they reveal, such as what Motor Trend uncovered, can change.

Regardless, the truck world is beginning to understand what it can expect from the next F-150. Its styling is the main thing we haven’t seen, but expect it to be an evolution of the current model. The interior has already leaked, and it shows a focus on tech with a massive central touchscreen ready to take on Ram. Engines should stay similar as well, with the notable addition of the plug in hybrid model. The biggest changes to America’s best selling vehicle is the introduction of an all electric F-150, but its still a few years out.
