The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT and GT Performance Edition SUVs are launching soon, and will give the Tesla Model Y Performance some substantial competition. As you’d expect, the Mach-E GT and GT Performance go a step above the performance and driving range of the standard Mach-E, thanks to more power dense battery packs. If the regular Mustang Mach-E didn’t already have the folks over at Tesla looking over their shoulders, the latest EPA range numbers from the Ford Mach-E GT models sure won’t be helping their worries.

What Does The Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Range Look Like?

The EPA-estimated range of the Mustang Mach-E GT is approximately 260 miles on a full charge. That’s a 40 mile increase from the regular Mustang Mach-E with the standard range battery. Fortunately, the extended range battery comes standard on the Mach-E GT models, as does the eAWD drivetrain, bumping the driving range up to 270 miles on the Mach-E GT Performance Edition. Ford made sure to sacrifice zero miles of range even while turning up the Mach-E GT’s performance numbers.

The Mustang Mach-E GT can do 0-60 in 3.8 seconds, while the Performance Edition does an even more impressive 3.5 second 0-60. Both SUV models generate 480 horsepower and 634 lb-ft of torque. For a reality check, the 2021 Ford Mustang GT Fastback with the 5.0L V8 generates 460 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque with a 4.2 second 0-60 time. Yes, we are now living in a time where the electric Ford Mustang SUVs are faster and more powerful than the iconic two-door Mustang coupes. Wild.

How Does It Fare Compared To The Model Y?

For a fair electric SUV comparison, we can look to the Tesla Model Y Performance. The base Model Y Long Range can go 326 miles on a full charge, and the Model Y Performance can do 303 miles. While the driving range of the Model Y Performance bests the Mach-E GT models, the 0-60 times are pretty much the same. The Mach-E GT Performance Edition meets the Tesla Model Y Performance at an exact 3.5-second match.

According to Ford, Mustang Mach-E GT orders have been placed in every single state in the US. Half of those Mach-E GT orders are for the mighty Performance Edition. We will start to see the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT electric utility vehicles hit the streets late this fall.

  1. Tesla doesn’t have much to worry about this year. Ford is production constrained. They will be making about 50,000 Mach Es, Tesla, over 10 times that.
