Like most gearheads, you have probably dreamed of being a race car driver at some point. And while this career path isn’t exactly attainable for most of us mere mortals, there has never been a better time to buy a sports car for track days. Dollar for dollar, the mid-engined C8 Corvette is one of the best options out there. The folks over at LG Motorsports have just unveiled their new GT2 wing for America’s Sports Car to help cut down owner’s lap times.
Unlike other performance companies that have spent a tremendous amount of time increasing the C8’s horsepower, LG Motorsports have been looking for other ways to make the car faster around the track. Just like the aero treatments found on proper motorsports machines, this new GT2 wing kit was designed to significantly increase downforce without adding a ton of drag. More downforce means more grip, and faster lap times. The wing itself is constructed of carbon fiber, while the uprights are tied into the chassis and made from aluminum. LG Motorsports will also offer an aluminum wicker for those that are interested.
The GT2 Wing isn’t the only aerodynamic upgrade that LG Motorsports is working on for the C8 Corvette. The company has also announced a carbon fiber front splitter, but they have yet to release the part to the public. Despite this, we can see both aero tweaks working during a video of a lap of COTA uploaded by the shop. The team says that the car was able to pick up about four second a lap thanks to the aero treatments, despite battling brake issues and other troubles.
The GT2 wing for the C8 Corvette from LG Motorsports carries an MSRP of $4,561.90, which includes the wing, the mounting hardware, and a factory spoiler delete kit. While not a bargain priced upgrade, it is one that will bring tangible improvements to your track times. If we’re being completely honest, it will certainly make you look racier in the supermarket parking lot.
