Earlier this afternoon, General Motors President Mark Ruess shared some new information about the upcoming Chevrolet Silverado EV. More specifically, the executive noted that the truck is slated to be built at the company’s Factory Zero site, and that the electric truck should arrive with a range of more than 400 miles per charge. And while this is all exciting stuff, recent reports from industry analysts have shined some new light on another vehicle slated to be built at the former Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant. Here is what we know so far about the upcoming Cadillac Escalade EV.

As was reported by The Detroit News, Sam Fiorani of AutoForecast Solutions believes that the Cadillac Escalade EV will enter production at the Factory Zero site in January of 2024. This electric SUV will not entirely replace the Escalade that we see on sale today, but rather is slated to be offered alongside the traditional ICE-powered offering. That makes a lot of sense, considering that General Motors just released the current SUV last year with a ton of improvements over the outgoing model. Furthermore, the brand likely doesn’t want to alienate their current Cadillac Escalade customer base, as nearly half of these luxury SUVs trade hands for over $100,000. With margins like that, keeping buyers happy is surely front of mind.

Considering it will be built at the same plant, the Cadillac Escalade EV should utilize the same Ultium Battery architecture as the GMC Hummer EV and Silverado EV models. As of now we have no range targets to share, though it’s quite likely the numbers will fall between the Hummer and the Silverado’s ratings. It is expected that the truck will arrive in both standard and long wheelbase configurations, not unlike its gas-powered counterparts. Speaking of the traditional SUV, don’t expect the Escalade EV to disrupt production taking place at GM’s SUV plant down in Arlington, Texas.

Some can opine that Cadillac has been embroiled in a two-decades long identity crisis. The company has tried their best to chase the German automakers, with arguable amounts of success along the way. That is except for the Escalade, which has remained unabashedly true to the brand’s American swagger and heritage. It’s massive, floaty, and as luxurious an offering as can be found from an American company. An electric powertrain isn’t going to hurt any of those characteristics, and could actually help improve them, in all honesty. For that reason, the decision to electrify the GM’s premier luxury SUV makes a lot of sense.

We are still quite a ways out from when the Cadillac Escalade EV is expected to enter production. For that reason, details are going to likely remain scarce for a while. We do know that GM wants to crank out 30 new EVs by 2025 however, so it’s possible we’ll be able to deduce more details as that starts to happen. What do you think about an electric Escalade? Let us know down below.
