The slick and sturdy feel of the Tremec TR-6060 six-speed manual transmission found in sixth-generation V8 Chevrolet Camaro models such as the Camaro SS and Camaro ZL1 delivers a satisfying action that helps blend the line between man and machine. However, when it comes to the Camaro Turbo and Camaro V6 equipped with a Tremec TR-3160 transmission doesn’t quite deliver on the same sensations. Even in the athletic 1LE models, the shifting feels a bit rubbery. Thankfully, Hurst may have a solution for these entry-level muscle cars.

The Hurst short throw Billet/Plus shifter is now available for all manual 2016-2020 Camaro LS and LT models equipped with the Tremec TR-3160 transmission. In other words, manual Camaros with the 2.0L LTG turbo four, 3.6L LGX V6, and 6.2 L LT1 V8 are compatible. While this new short shifter isn’t compatible with the upper level SS and ZL1 models that use the Tremec TR-6060 transmission, Hurst already offered a shifter for those models. This new shifter allows Hurst to cover all of the manual Camaro range.

Short throw shifters decrease the distance between gears in a manual transmission. In theory, this allows for faster shifts because there is less travel. It also allows for a more “notchy” feel when shifting, which many car enthusiasts prefer. Hurst claims a 40% reduction in shifter throw in the new unit.

The new Hurst short shifter is currently available for $239.95. The internals feature steel pivot ball, CNC machined housing, and an isolated handle that reduces vibration. The shifter pairs with the factory shift knob, so the interior remains looking untouched. Hurst also backs it with a lifetime warranty.

Short shifters are relatively easy to install with some basic mechanical know-how, so this new product could be perfect for Camaro Turbo and Camaro V6 owners with some extra time on their hands at home right now.
