JUST HOW IMPORTANT IS THE CHEVROLET SILVERADO EV?

We Discuss With Detroit News Columnist Henry Payne On The Radio Waves About GM’s Latest Electric Truck

In case you didn’t know, MC&T is famous. In our most recent feat of fame, MC&T founder and editorial director Manoli Katakis recently spent some time talking with Detroit News auto columnist Henry Payne and his Car Radio show in Detroit, where they talked in depth about the upcoming Chevrolet Silverado EV electric pickup truck, and how it plays into GM’s all-electric future strategy.

The Importance Of The Chevrolet Silverado EV

“GM’s strategy is gonna revolve a lot on how well vehicles like the electric Silverado are going to do.” Manny said when asked about the electric future of General Motors.

GM has visions to become fully electric by 2035 and has made it public that the company aspires to provide 25 new EV’s by the year 2025. Propelling all of this are a couple of things. The recently reopened Detroit Hamtramck Factory Zero assembly plant, where the Hummer EV is currently being produced, is one of the major proponents of electrification for the company.

As of right now, the Chevrolet Silverado EV is the newest development for the company and its EV’s however in a virtual keynote at CES 2022 GM CEO Mary Barra teased the public by sharing an all electric Chevy Blazer and Equinox are in the works, to be revealed and produced after the Silverado EV presumably. Another major proponent of moving towards an all-electric future for GM is the Ultium batteries they have developed to be scalable in order to share among a variety of platforms. The Hummer EV is currently using the Ultium batteries as its power source.

The 2024 Silverado EV RST First Edition and fleet-only Silverado EV WT are the preliminary offerings from Chevy’s all-new electric truck. Production for the Silverado EV WT is set to begin in spring of 2023, if not sooner, while the RST First Edition will commence that fall. In summer of 2024, a retail version of the Silverado EV work truck is on deck, as is a de-contented RST trim level. A Trail Boss version was also confirmed.
