Last month, we reported on a trademark filing by Ford for “Excursion,” possibly signaling the return of a heavy duty truck based SUV in Ford’s lineup. With SUV popularity booming, now is a good of a time as ever for Ford to give the three row, tow anything Excursion another go. But even back in the mid-2000s when Ford had the Excursion, General Motors never had a true competitor. Yes, there was the Hummer H1, but that was more of a lifestyle vehicle than the Excursion ever was, and the upcoming Hummer EV looks to be the same. So if this massive vehicle makes a return in the Blue Oval’s lineup, will GM respond? If they do, it will probably look something like this Chevrolet Suburban HD rendering by Instagram artist Oscar V, or @wb.artist20.
Overall, it looks about what you would expect from this type of vehicle: big, bold and boxy. Still, the Silverado HD styling works surprisingly well in an SUV context. In the front, the rendering has altered headlights that are more vertical, and larger than the original Silverado units. The post caption says the artist has never liked the original headlights, and the SUV version of a truck typically has a few graphical changes to differentiations it.
Despite all of the electrification hype, we can see huge popularity in something in a gas powered, heavy-duty-truck-based SUV today, and into the future. The off-road community would likely go bananas for something like this, while deep-pocketed families would find a three-row SUV with the capabilities of a 3/4-ton truck the perfect machine to haul all the people and tow all of the toys.
