DURAMAX SPECIALTIES PROVIDE 3/4 TON DIESEL POWERED GM UTILITY VEHICLES

Even If They Aren’t The Current Models

Duramax Specialties

When General Motors unveiled their new line of full-size SUVs, the company made news when they confirmed the 3.0L Duramax diesel engine was slated to join the powertrain lineup. However, orders for the torquey six-cylinder-powered GM SUVs are expected to open up until later this year. If you’re in the market for a diesel-powered family hauler, Duramax Specialties might just have the solution for you.

Based in Woodstock, Georgia, Duramax Specialties have built over 250 diesel-swapped GM SUVs. The company starts with a 3/4 Suburban or Yukon XL from 2003-2013, and then swaps over a frame from a 2500 HD pickup truck. This chassis upgrade provides a better platform for heavy-duty towing, and makes a better home for the diesel powertrain. Buyers have the choice between three 6.6L Duramax V8 engines: the LBZ, LMM, and LML, but not the current generation L5P. An Allison six-speed automatic transmission is the sole option available. It’s also one of the most proven truck transmissions on the market.

The upgrades to these GM utility vehicles aren’t cobbled together either, as these trucks almost look as if they left the factory this way. That is because the team at Duramax Specialties basically give these trucks a mild restoration, doing everything from acid-bathing the new frame to completely refreshing the suspension. Even the headlights and taillights are replaced so they have a factory-fresh shine to them. The list of new hardware added to these SUVs is massive, and a full list can be viewed on the company’s website here.

If you already own a 2003-2013 full-size GM SUV, you can get in contact with Duramax Specialties for the upgrade package. If your desire for a diesel-powered SUV can’t wait however, the company also does have some turn-key examples available for purchase. For just $31,900, you can own a 2003-2006 Suburban with a LBZ Duramax V8 under the hood. That is quite the tempting offer indeed, considering a new Suburban starts at $52,995.
