Manual transmissions may be becoming a thing of the past as car manufacturers make automatic transmissions almost entirely standard on all vehicles (*looks at the C8 Corvette*). However, a select few cars on the market continue to allow customers the option between one or the other, such as the Cadillac Blackwing super sedans. The 2021 Ford Bronco is another one of these vehicles, with an impressive percentage of orders placed for the standard manual transmission.
The 2021 Ford Bronco has seen hiccups along its launch path as it looks to fulfill over 125,000 orders, likely through the 2022 model year. Ford has even stopped online reservations due to the number of orders placed as they attempt to catch up. But according to Motor1, of those 125,000 orders, 15% of them are manual transmissions. That’s as good a take rate as any.
2021 Ford Bronco With Manual Transmission
The manual transmission is only available with the 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine, producing 300 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque. With 15 percent of total Bronco orders featuring a stick-shift, there is likely to be over 18,700 2021 Ford Bronco SUVs with a third pedal kicking up dust on the trail.
According to Ford, 40 percent of total 2021 Ford Bronco orders were for the standard 2.3L EcoBoost four-cylinder. Some quick math puts the manual take rate at 37 percent for those Bronco models with the base engine.
A manual transmission cannot currently be configured with the upgraded 2.7L EcoBoost V6, or the Sasquatch Package. But that will soon change for the latter.
If the 2.7-liter V6 with its 330 horsepower and 415 lb-ft. of torque had the option for a manual transmission, we likely would see these numbers rise even higher in terms of the percentage of sticks.
