It seems Ford has done everything they can to ensure an on-time launch of the new Mustang Mach-E electric crossover. The car has supposedly gotten its 50,000 preorders, evident through a MachEClub forum member being reservationist 50,002 back in April. This hits Ford’s first year production goal, making it effectively sold out in reservations for the first production year, although they are still happy to take more reservations. Now, Ford is gearing up to turn these reservations into physical orders for the Ford Mustang Mach-E in late June, possibly the 22 according to EV Bite.

EV Bite says “order books” are opening June 22, while Autoweek calls them “dealer orders.” The Mustang Mach-E is expected to follow Tesla’s order only business model until reservation orders are fulfilled. This means you won’t see a Mach-E in stock at dealerships for a long time, so it isn’t entirely obvious what order books or dealer orders are specifically referring to. For clarification and confirmation, we reached out to Ford and a Mach-E spokesperson Emma Bergg for clarification.

“Targeting late June, Mustang Mach-E customers will be invited to convert their reservation to an order,” Bergg told MC&T. “Reservation holders will be contacted soon with details on how to finalize their order. This can be done online or via their selected EV-certified dealer.”

It seems starting late June, probably the 22, customers with reservations can order their Mach-E online, or more traditionally through their local dealership, hence the dealer orders. Ford also confirmed to us reservationists build slots will get highest priority, so once those models are built, we could see the Mach-E sitting in dealer lots like any other Ford. Still, that’s probably 12 months up the road.

In a way, Ford has also confirmed that they have gotten over 50,000 reservations, and that they are still taking more for every trim but the First Edition.

“The limited edition First Edition reservations bank is full and we expect around 50,000 global sales of Mustang Mach-E in the first 12 months of production,” said Bergg. “All other derivatives remain available to order.”

Finally, Ford is adding a bold new Cyber Orange color to the Mustang Mach-E. If you go through with making an existing reservation an order, or decide to put in a new order, you’ll be able to select Cyber Orange as an option. The upcoming Ford Bronco and Bronco Sport are also expected to feature this new color, so here are your first official pictures of it.
