GMC SIERRA EV DENALI TEASED IN SHORT VIDEO

GM’s Third Electric Truck Takes Shape

Electric pickup trucks are all the rage, and there’s an ever-growing number of models inbound from just about everyone, from Ford to Lordstown Motors. And while the Chevrolet Silverado EV might be considered a more measured, tit-for-tat response to Ford’s pure-electric F-150 Lightning, the market for luxury trucks is hot enough that there’s certainly room for a more upscale, premium version – something decidedly more plush than the Silverado EV, yet maybe not quite as rich or as off-road-focused as the Hummer EV: GMC’s forthcoming electric Sierra EV Denali.

You didn’t think GM was going to stop with the GMC Hummer EV, did you?

The General today gave us a rare first glimpse at its electric Sierra EV Denali, making absolutely sure to highlight its “Denali” badge.

“Sierra Denali holds tremendous equity for GMC and our customers,” GMC Vice President Duncan Aldred said in a release. “We now have an opportunity to evolve Sierra’s capabilities and technologies, as afforded by transitioning to an all-electric propulsion while also elevating the luxurious design and comfort associated with Denali.”

The 19-second electric Sierra Denali teaser put out by GM doesn’t offer us much in the way of discernible design features, but we do get a pretty complete eyeful of the front fascia and its flashy exterior lighting sequence. Graphically, it’s distinct from the GMC electric truck sketch published by General Motors Design back in November, although the sketch and the teased fascia do seem to have plenty of overlap with regard to overall design sensibilities.

Needless to say, today’s teaser and accompanying press release did little to enlighten us with regard to the all-important performance and pricing bullet points for the electric Sierra Denali, but here’s what we do know: the truck, like the GMC Hummer EV and Chevrolet Silverado EV, will draw on GM’s impressive Ultium battery technology. Also like those vehicles, it will be built at GM’s Factory ZERO facility, formerly the “Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant,” and if the stats are similar, it could have a driving range of around 400 miles on a full charge.

As for availability, expect GMC’s electric Sierra Denali to land alongside the Silverado EV in 2023 as a 2024-model-year vehicle.
