GMC HUMMER EV SINGLED OUT IN SILLY STUDY

The GMC Hummer EV has received the stamp of approval from both President Biden and Jay Leno, while also serving as a main ambassador to demonstrate the power and potential of battery electric vehicles to even the most skeptical of customers. Despite this, some agenda-driven “studies” continue to single out the supersized super truck.

Like Nothing Else, the GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 can crab-walk, go from 0-60 in 3-seconds flat with 1,000 horsepower, features four-wheel steering, and has room for all of the gear, and all of the friends. Plus, it’s a beast off-road.

According to the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) study the GMC Hummer EV emits 21 more grams of carbon dioxide per mile than the Chevy Malibu. Yes. Somebody bothered to compare a 9,000 pound truck with 1,000 horsepower to a family sedan that nobody is going to remember.

The 163 hp Chevy Malibu emits a grand total of 320 grams of carbon dioxide where the Hummer EV emits 341 grams per mile. Oppositely, the bygone Hummer H1 produced a whopping 889 grams of carbon dioxide per mile. And that’s a far more valid comparison, if you ask us. If anything, the study shows just how efficient BEVs can be, despite their weight, their intense demand for rare earth minerals, and other environmental impacts besides the measurement of CO2.

A spokesperson at GM says that the study doesn’t mention anything about the benefit of bringing a performance based EV to the market. GM says that a large portion of their reservation holders have never owned an EV, they are effectively bringing more “EV Skeptics” into the EV world, which is a good thing overall. Per GM, many who are making the transition are or were pickup truck owners. GM believes that the Hummer EV and other high performance EV’s like the Mustang Mach-E 1400 will provide a natural gateway for skeptics to join the ranks of EV owners. Perhaps they can look at ways to make the Hummer EV more efficient (carbon neutral) as it creeps along the production line.
