The 2020 Chevrolet Camaro has been launching in select markets all over the world, and Japan is the latest country to receive the updated muscle car. While that’s all fine and dandy, there’s bigger news: Chevy is launching a limited run Heritage Edition Camaro exclusively for the Japanese market, with only 90 of them being built.
There will be 30 Camaros in LT trim, 20 as convertibles, and 40 Camaro Heritage Editions in SS trim. Separating them from the rest will be a Rally Green Metallic paint accented by white hood stripes. While deeper than the original, the Rally Green hue is a throwback to an original Camaro paint color of the same name. The only official photo from Chevrolet is provided above. The interior is a Kalahari tan, while the five-spoke gloss black wheels are unique to this Japanese market Camaro, as well.
The Heritage Edition Camaro is painted with an exclusive Rally Green Metallic paint, which is accented by white hood stripes. Chevy Japan will begin taking orders for the Heritage Edition Camaro starting on January 10, 2020, with delivery slated for the following summer.
Pricing for this rare package has also been announced. The most affordable Chevrolet Camaro Heritage Edition is an LT RS spec, and is priced at 5,650,000 Yen or about $51,610 USD. The Chevrolet Camaro SS Heritage Edition commands a premium of 7,480,000 Yen, or about $68,325 USD. Both of those prices are around double what their respective trim levels cost here in American money, where the Chevy pony car isn’t tariffed, nor is there a tax on the size of the engine. Japan is also a right-hand-drive country, whereas all Camaros leave the factory with left-hand-drive. So besides the price, Japanese customers will also have the added difficulty of a different driving position than they’re used to.
2020 Camaro pricing for Japan is otherwise 5,560,000 yen ($50,707 USD) for the LT RS trim, 6,430,000 yen ($58,642 USD)for the Chevrolet Camaro Convertible, and 7,100,000 yen ($64,752 USD) for the Camaro SS.
If you’re surprised that there’s a special edition Chevrolet Camaro for the Japanese market, don’t be. If you recall, Chevrolet also announced two special edition models for the Russian market, albeit with the controversial outgoing fascia design of the 2019 SS model. The Camaro is, of course, a globally recognized American icon, so it’s nice to see the brand celebrate this status in a way that’s unique to different countries.
