Jeep’s highest ranking officers see the aftermarket as a big opportunity for the all-new 2022 Jeep Wagoneer going forward.
“I think on Wagoneer, maybe a little less on the Grand Wagoneer, we’ll see overlanders, we’ll see all kinds of lift kits and tires and outdoorsy stuff,” said Jeep brand CEO Christian Meunier in an interview with MC&T. “Crazy sh*t. We’ll see a lot of fun stuff on the Wagoneer, and we want to stimulate that.”
Major events on the 2021 calendar that could showcase the Jeep Wagoneer with some aftermarket upgrades include Overland Expo West in September, Overland Expo East in October, and the 2021 SEMA Show in November.
“Get ready to see the Wagoneer at SEMA,” Meunier continued. “I think people are going to go nuts with it, and we want them to go nuts. That’s part of the culture. We’re talking and debating about having some aftermarket people come earlier to be ready to start working on their programs.”
Jeep has long been a darling of the aftermarket, particularly the Wrangler SUV and more recently the Gladiator pickup truck. Both are body-on-frame vehicles, as is the Jeep Wagoneer. While Stellantis claims its new full-size SUV rides on a new architecture, it is believed to be heavily related to the Ram 1500 pickup truck. Both the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will be built alongside the Ram 1500 at the Warren Truck Assembly plant in Southeast Michigan.
Meunier kept further details close to the chest, but it’s highly likely that Stellantis is readying several Mopar accessories for the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer that will debut at the 2021 SEMA Show. Longtime Jeep upfitter American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) is likely keen to get a few Wagoneers for some overlanding upgrades and other “outdoorsy stuff,” as the Jeep CEO eluded to.
The 2022 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will begin production in the second half of 2021. The base Wagoneer will carry a starting MSRP of $57,995 and will come standard with a 5.7L Hemi V8 engine that’s assisted by an eTorque 48V mild hybrid system. Total base output is 392 horsepower and 404 lb-ft of torque. As an option, a standalone 6.4L Hemi V8 with 471 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are paired to a ZF-sourced 8-speed automatic transmission.
