ONE AND DONE: CADILLAC BLACKWING DARK EMERALD FROST PAINT DISCONTINUED

The Limited Edition Matte Green Paint Disappears After Less Than a Year

As of this month, the pair of Cadillac Blackwing sedans, the CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing, will no longer be available to order in the limited edition Dark Emerald Frost paint. The hue was a late availability option available on model year 2022 Cadillac Blackwing series sedans.

Known as color code G7W, the matte dark green paint was limited to just 150 Blackwing sedans– making it exceedingly rare. 115 CT5-V Blackwings were allocated to receive the special paint, while a mere 35 CT4-V Blackwing sedans were made available. Priced at $3,925, Dark Emerald Frost was also by far the most expensive paint option available on the Blackwing sedans, followed by Infrared Tintcoat at $1,225.

Besides its scarcity, the matte finish is also extremely finicky and requires great care to preserve its frosty finish. General Motors even included special instructions in the user manuals of Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing sedans painted in Dark Emerald Frost on how to properly care for the matte finish. Owners were cautioned against using an automatic car wash equipped with brushes and scrubbers, along with a stern warning to never use waxes or polishes.

The best course of action to protect the highly sensitive Dark Emerald Frost matte finish would be to immediately wrap the car in paint protection film, as any sort of rubbing to the finish can create bright spots, leading to an uneven appearance.

Fortunately, the Blackwing-exclusive Tech Bronze aluminum-alloy wheels remain available. Sized at 18-inches when equipped on the CT4-V Blackwing and 19-inches when optioned on the CT5-V Blackwing, the sporty split-spoke wheels made for a striking contrast when paired with Dark Emerald Frost. The wheels are tagged with production code RRR and remain a $1,500 option on both sedans.

In case you forgot, the CT4-V Blackwing is equipped with a twin-turbocharged 3.6L V6 rated for 472 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque and can be paired with either a six-speed manual or a 10-speed automatic. The larger CT5-V Blackwing comes with a supercharged 6.2L LT4 V8 good for 668 horsepower and 659 pound-feet of torque, it shares the same choice of six-speed manual or 10-speed automatic.
