Auto manufacturing plants in Michigan continue to deal with the heightened theft rates from local denizens. And they’re not discriminating brands, either. Over in Lansing, the GM plant that builds the Camaro is dealing with grand theft auto. In Warren, the Stellantis truck plant has bandits targeting Jeep Wagoneer SUVs and Ram TRX pickups. And downriver, burglars are making off with Ford Mustang muscle cars.

According to Fox News Detroit, the vehicles were stolen at around 2am on Tuesday, September 13th. The thieves stole the vehicles from a parking lot in Woodhaven, just a stone throw away from the Ford Motor Company Flat Rock Assembly plant that exclusively makes both the Ford Mustang at the moment.

This is the second time that thieves have stolen vehicles from the plant, the first time was back in the summertime when four S550 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 coupes were stolen.

“It’s not an isolated incident. I’m sure these teams have been arranged, probably have a decent leadership, they know what they’re where they’re going, they know where the easier targets are,” said Woodhaven Deputy Police Chief Jeffrey Brust.

In other words, it smells like an inside job.

While the incident seems to be isolated, that doesn’t mean that it is unique. Across town in Warren, a separate theft occurred at the Stellantis truck plant that saw multiple Jeep Wagoneers stolen, after thieves broke the windows and smashed through the gates of Parking Lot B.

“We’re looking at five or six vehicles at least, and they were the high-priced Wagoneers,” said Warren Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer. “When the guard came out he started to close the gate, they smashed the gate and luckily he wasn’t seriously injured.”

Police were able to recover two of the SUVs which are worth in the neighborhood $100,000, but the suspects managed to escape with the remaining Wagoneers.

“(They were) professionals to the extent that they know what to do and how to do it,” Dwyer said.

It is not known if the thefts are connected at this time.
