Ram Wins The Money And Loyalty Of Buyers Under 35

Ram trucks have seen massive sales success in the past few years. After traditionally falling behind the Ford F-150 and Chevrolet Silverado, the Ram 1500 surged ahead to second place in 2019 sales. Chevy did reclaim second place in Q1 of 2019, but we will hold out final judgement until the end of the year. But Ram has another major victory. Using data from IHS Markit and Edmunds, Automotive News has reported Ram 1500 has the most customers under 35, making it the most youthful American truck.

According to Automotive News, Ram sold 43,282 trucks to buyers under 35 years old in 2019. In comparison, Ford’s F-Series sold 40,968 trucks and Chevy’s Silverado sold 39,181 trucks to buyers under 35 last year. Owning this market is huge, as many buyers will continue to purchase trucks from a specific brand for years to come. Establishing loyalty in the younger market group is a goal Ram has also achieved.

Using data from IHS Markit, Automotive News claims Ram has the highest brand loyalty in the light-duty truck segment over three years. Ram has had such success for a variety of reasons.

First, Ram is selling the previous generation 1500 as the Ram 1500 Classic. This gives buyers an option for a cheaper truck. In fact, the average price of a Ram Classic is around $10,000 less then the newer Ram 1500, according to Edmunds. This allows for Ram trucks to have the biggest spread of price range in the truck market, which attracts a wider array of buyers. Because Ram doesn’t have a mid-size pickup, the Ram Classic essentially fills the gap in price while attracting some buyers with more size. The Ram Classic will eventually go away, and those younger buyers may then be financially able to upgrade to the Ram 1500.

Next, the Ram 1500 has brought a luxurious interior, unique features and exciting tech to the segment This has attracted younger buyers with more money. Younger buyers tend to put more of an importance on vehicle tech. Ram trucks with the optional 12 inch touchscreen certainly deliver the wow factor many younger buyers look for. Other features like the multifunction tailgate and RamBox provide useful tricks the youngsters love.
