Well folks, it was bound to happen at some point. Not even a full day removed from the cover being pulled off of the Ford Bronco lineup, the performance legends at Saleen announced a special edition full-size Bronco of their own. Drawing off of the off-roaders racing heritage, the Saleen Bronco pays tribute to the one-and-only Big Oly.
There are few off-road racing vehicles that are more important to the history of the sport than Big Oly. Built by Bill Stroppe and wheeled by Parnelli Jones, the tube-chassis SUV won the Mexican 1000 back to back in 1972 and 1973. Despite its success in the desert, perhaps the most memorable thing about Big Oly is just how awesome the SUV looks. That massive roll-cage mounted spoiler combined with the Olympia Beer livery reminiscent of a fresh-poured pint are unmistakable.
The Saleen Bronco will pay homage to Big Oly with an Olympia Beer-inspired livery of its own, while also packing a smattering of the company’s own hardware. Upgrades over the standard Bronco include a Saleen front bumper with an integrated LED light, upgraded grille surround in forged carbon with Baja Blue accents, Saleen Design composite fenders front and rear, a forged carbon skid plate, Saleen rocker panel guards and their own Power Hood. For when you’re out hammering the trails in the wee hours, they’ve also fitted the truck with some additional driving lights on the A-pillars and roof. True to the Big Oly name, Saleen have even equipped their Bronco with an adjustable rear spoiler for added high-speed stability.
The Saleen Bronco is also said to feature some performance upgrades, though we don’t have any information about those quite yet. We also don’t know which trim level of the Bronco will serve as the basis of the package, or how much Saleen is going to charge for it. That said, we are positive that this isn’t the only special edition of the new Ford icon that we’re going to be seeing in the near future.
