The Cadillac Escalade is an icon of American opulence. Like the Cadillacs of days gone by, this SUV is both large in presence and footprint. Inkas Armored Vehicle Manufacturing is based in Toronto, and has been crafting these sort of uber-safe machines since 2000. The 2021 Inkas Escalade is the culmination of over two decades in the industry, blending together the luxurious elements of a Cadillac with the protection their customers demand. The vehicle starts life as a 6.2L L87 V8-powered model, which produces 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. The L87 V8 was chosen due to its proven reliability and unrivaled grunt, something customers will certainly appreciate in a sticky situation. From there, the truck is outfitted with the company’s 360-degree perimeter cabin protection system. This includes armor plating, bullet-proof glass, and armor for the battery and electronic control modules. In order to cope with the added weight of the armor, the Inkas Escalade also comes equipped with a reinforced suspension, as well as upgraded door hinges and other critical components. Inkas also has an extensive list of options on order, including a light-weight armor package, a siren/intercom system, emergency lights, fire suppression hardware, and heavy duty wheel and brake packages. Regardless of how the truck is spec’d, Inkas says their Escalade has an armor rating of BR6, which allows it to withstand some serious abuse. Attacks from 7.62x51mm or .308 Winchester rounds will be shrugged off, and the SUV is rated to withstand two simultaneous blasts from hand grenades directly under the floor. Based on those figures, typical small arms fire will be a laughable problem for Inkas Escalade owners.
This sort of protection isn’t a cheap affair however. The Cadillac Escalade itself can ring it at well over $100,000, and you can expect Inkas to more than double that number by the time things are all said and done. Now that is a lot of money, but it’s an investment that could very well save your life.
