We’re Counting Down The Days

We are less than two weeks away from the reveal of the all-new 2021 Ford Bronco, which is by far the most hyped launch of the year. But it seems Ford is just going to keep on riding the hype train until the SUV debuts on July 13, as they’ve just released another teaser video. Even though we don’t see the Bronco in the video, we get a first person view of it driving in all sorts of off road environments. More importantly, it’s the first time we have officially heard the Bronco.

That video really sounds like a V6 to us, all but confirming the Bronco will get an engine offering above four cylinders. That’s exciting news for anyone wanting more power, and a better noise, from their off-road SUV. And that engine even seems to have enough poke to kick the Bronco sideways at the end of the video.

This seems to confirm rumors and leaks have indicated the 2021 Ford Bronco engine range will include a four cylinder and six cylinder powertrain at launch. The base 2.3 liter EcoBoost four cylinder unit will likely have similar power figures to the Ford Ranger pickup, at 270 hp. But that V6 is more exciting. Chances are it’ll be the 2.7 liter EcoBoost V6, where it could deliver about 322 horsepower.

Importantly, this is significantly more power than the Jeep Wrangler Pentastar V6 develops, at 285 hp. Ford should push the extra performance on offer with this engine as a selling point over the Wrangler. In addition, the Bronco will come with a seven-speed manual gearbox, rather than the Wrangler’s six speed. The seventh gear will give a class exclusive low speed crawler gear, perfect for rock crawling. While not confirmed, expect auto or manual for both engines.

Down the line, Ford is expected to spread its U.S. Raptor lineup from the F-150 to the Bronco. This rumored Bronco Raptor will also have a V6, but likely the 3.0 liter twin turbo motor found in the Ford Explorer ST, where it pumps out a nice even 400 hp. Sounds like enough for us.
