This year will be an important one for the C8 Chevrolet Corvette. The sports car will hopefully put its production woes behind it when the factory swaps to 2022 production this summer, and the C8 lineup will expand with an exciting new model. That of course is the track-focused 2022 Corvette Z06, which will be one of the most special vehicles General Motors has ever made. And a new report by Corvette Blogger may have uncovered pre-production models will be built over the next few months.

All Chevrolet Corvette models have a photo album option offered through the National Corvette Museum. The album, which costs $700, highlights the build process of your vehicle, with pictures of your specific car rolling down the production line. The option has been especially popular this year, as Bowling Green factory tours haven’t been offered due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. But mysteriously, C8 Corvette customers that ordered the photo album recently have been given a refund, and the album is no longer allowed. Why could this be?

One very likely option is where the 2022 C8 Corvette Z06 comes in. The reveal has been rumored for this July, so the timetable lines up for pre-production models to be built over the next few months. These models are traditionally pieced together at the Bowling Green factory, and are called “Alphas,” according to Corvette Blogger. It makes perfect sense for General Motors to turn away photographers for the photo album option, especially when they’ve been allowed throughout most portions of the pandemic. In fact, no visitors are allowed at all for the rest of 2021 model year production. By the time the plant swaps to 2022, the C8 Corvette Z06 will probably be revealed.

Corvette Blogger noted the National Corvette Museum is hosting their annual Corvette Bash later this week, where they will likely reveal details about the 2022 model year vehicle. We don’t expect the Z06 to debut this soon and without any notice or teasers, but there’s a chance Chevrolet and GM could start the hype train for the model with a teaser or reveal date. We can’t wait to finally hear that naturally aspirated flat plane crank V8 scream.
