The 2022 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Extreme Off-Road Concept that was on display at the 2021 SEMA Show takes an already great factory platform, and upgrades it in all sorts of ways with official accessories. Just don’t call it a Bison.
Under the hood, we see a healthy 3.6-liter V6 that produces 308 horsepower and 275 ft-lb of torque aided by a Chevrolet Performance Cold Air Intake accessory, plus an exhaust upgrade with a polished tip. Also not seen by the naked eye are ball spline half-shafts, an eye-popping $4,482.24 upgrade. Rounding off drivetrain upgrades are a steel driveshaft cover, a rear differential cover, and an axle anti-wrap link system.

The 2022 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Extreme Concept also sees just about every single suspension upgrade available from the performance catalog. There’s a 1.5 inch lift system, a leveling kit, tie rod sleeves, high-angle upper control arms, long travel rear leaf springs, jounce shocks front and rear, and new front and rear long travel Multimatic DSSV dampers.
“This is the outcome from decades of off-road racing expertise, these trucks are developed by engineers and racers as passionate about performance as you are,” says Chevy.
While all these upgrades are intended to augment the off-road capabilities of the 2022 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2, we think those little 31-inch tires could be swapped out for something meatier. Thankfully, companies like American Expedition Vehicles offer larger fenders and bigger tires to do just the thing.

Add in some recovery hooks, a Baja design off-road 30-inch light bar, Baja design sport lamps, and some crew cab rocker panels for protection, and you’re ready to hit the deserts at high speeds or conquer that mountain range you’ve been eyeing.
The 2022 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Extreme Off Road Concept was quite the contradiction from Chevy’s “Project X” EV sitting not too far away. This simply demonstrates the bandwidth of Chevy Performance, and we’re here for it.
