2020 FORD MUSTANG SHELBY GT500 VISTS JAY LENO’S GARAGE: VIDEO

The 36-Minute Video Is Full Of Awesome Details

2020 Ford Mustang

The 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 has finally landed in the hands of testers, and it seems that the car is living up to its hype. The ultimate Mustang is the most powerful car the brand has ever made, and surely one if its most sinister looking. Comedian and guy who knows a few things about cars Jay Leno just had a GT500 come through his private garage, and the 36-minute video is certainly worth a watch.

As with many of Jay’s videos, we spend the first half inside the garage being guided around the GT500 in depth by Ford’s director of icons Dave Pericak (that doesn’t sound like such a bad gig if you ask us). The muscle car looks absolutely menacing in black, especially when paired with the $18,500 Carbon Fiber Track Package. While that is certainly a lot of money for an option from Ford, the package is chocked full of track-focused goodies . In order to reduce unsprung weight, Ford fits the GT500 with 20-inch carbon fiber wheels from Australian wheel manufacturer Carbon Revolution. These featherweight wheels are then wrapped in sticky Michelin Pilot Cup Sport 2s, measuring a ridiculous 305 section at the front with 315 sections out back. Thanks to added front splitter wickers and the carbon-fiber rear wing from the GT4 race car, the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 produces the most downforce of any Mustang yet.

In the video we are also treated to a good look at the supercharged 5.2L V8 under the hood of the GT500. The motor produces 760 horsepower and 625 pound-feet of torque, which Ford says allows the Shelby to run the quarter-mile in only 10.7 seconds, though we have already seen this figure bested in the hands of others.

The real treat in the comes when Leno and Pericak head out on the streets of southern California with the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 after the 18 -inute mark. While we’ll let you hear what Jay has to say about this super muscle car, all you need to know is that “It’s a nice driving car”.
