The C8 Corvette is a hot commodity right now, coming in as the fastest selling car in the United States last month. As we approach the 2022 model year however, some things are slated to change for the mid-engine sports car. Other than the fact that we will be getting the high-performance C8 Z06 later on, General Motors is also making adjustments to the exterior paint options available for the car. Now thanks to the folks over at Corvette Blogger, we have a bit more information about the three new paint colors coming to the 2022 C8 Corvette.
Corvette Blogger was the first to report that General Motors was making a change to their exterior color palette for the C8 last week. More specifically, the publication learned that Sebring Orange, Shadow Gray, and Zeus Bronze Metallic are all slated for the chopping block. All three of these colors faced limited sales during the 2020 model year, perhaps explaining their demise. Customers bought just 1,377 cars in Sebring Orange (6.8%), 1,111 in Shadow Gray (5.45%) and just 548 (2.69%) in the oh-so-brown Zeus Bronze Metallic.
Of course General Motors isn’t simply going to reduce the amount of exterior paint options for their flagship sports car. Instead, a trio of new colors are slated to join the lineup. Thanks to some information published by a Czech Republic-based Corvette dealer, we now know what these new colors are called internally. The 2022 C8 Corvette is the first example of the sports car to reach European soil, which might explain why dealers there have this information at hand. Here is what you need to know.
While GM may have made plans to phase out the previous three colors, the names of these new offerings suggest something different. More specifically, it appears that the automaker is simply adjusting the three hues a bit. The names are as follows: Hypersonic Gray Metallic, Amplify Orange Tintcoat, and Caffeine Brown Metallic. So as you can probably tell, the new colors might not be exactly the same as their predecessors, but they are still a gray, an orange, and a brown paint color.
Unfortunately, we don’t have any sort of images to share at this time as it relates to the new 2022 Corvette colors. Even the Czech dealership only has images of the outgoing colors displayed on their website. That said, we don’t expect to have to wait much longer. 2022 is going to be a big year for the C8 Corvette, now that the C8 Z06 is just around the corner. We’re hoping that Hypersonic Gray Metallic is reminiscent of the paint scheme found on the C8.R, in order to really drive home the “race car for the road” argument made by Alexander Rossi.
