The Denali Ultimate May Be The Pinnacle Of Pickup Truck Premium

The 2019-2021 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali interior wasn’t necessarily an unfavorable interior. In fact, we liked it. We didn’t need to be wooed by a large center screen, or an over-the-top accent pattern. We like buttons, knobs, and simplicity. But critics were vocal: the Ram 1500 Limited and its massive center touchscreen emerged as the new luxury truck champion, dethroning Denali to the depths of disfavor. Because, relative to the Ram and even the new Ford F-150 Limited, the Sierra Denali didn’t seem to shine as bright. That’s a gut punch, considering the Sierra Denali was first to the luxury truck segment in the mid 2000s. But GM – America’s best selling truck maker – wasn’t going to take things laying down, it seems. And today, the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate breaks cover. And it appears to be a true return to form: the final word in what a luxury truck is.

2022 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate: Exterior Design

Where the new Chevrolet Silverado family got a nose job, the new GMC Sierra got a nip/tuck. Advancements in lighting technology have allowed for a more streamlined illumination, giving way for a four inch expansion of the grille. The front bumper cutout also changes as a result. Kind of smiley, no?

Exclusively, the new GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate features a special set of 22-inch wheels, finished in Low Gloss Black with machined accents, an exclusive chrome shade they’re calling “Vader,” which is also the color of the GMC logo, along with a front fender trim featuring Mount Denali. The MultiPro tailgate, adaptive ride control, and power assist steps are all standard.

Additionally, GMC’s six-way MultiPro tailgate, the Denali Premium Suspension with segment-exclusive Adaptive Ride Control, and power assist steps are standard. The treasured CarbonPro composite truck bed is optional.

Interior Design

The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate features a special brown interior they’re calling “Alpine Umber,” featuring full-grain leather appointments and open-pore wood trim they’re calling “Paldao.” The darkened finish of this wood creates a distinctive color blend, while the unique graining adds compliments the topography etchings of Mount Denali. Just about everything is leather wrapped, as well. From the grab handles, to the visors. There’s a 12-way Bose sound system metal speaker grilles, 16-way power adjustable and massaging front seats, a microsuede headliner, and of course, a standard power sunroof.

Engines

GMC kept things pretty as-is under the hood, with the new Sierra Denali Ultimate coming standard with the 6.2L L87 V8 engine pushing out 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. The 3.0L LM2 Duramax diesel is optional, which pushes 277 horsepower and also 460 pound-feet, while returning superior fuel economy. Like the 2022 Silverado, the LM2 in the new Sierra can tow up to 4,000 pounds more than it used to.

2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate Price And Reservations

Indeed, it’s an ultimate price. But before customers officially place an order, they can place a reservation, for just $100 USD. This is done the same way as GMC did with the Hummer EV, with pre-orders taking place through the GMC website. Because it’s the most luxurious truck GMC has ever announced, it should be no surprise that the MSRP for the 2022 Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate is $80,395 USD. For the standard Denali, you’re looking at $61,295 USD. Production of the new Sierra begins in Q1, 2022.

Some highlights over the years of his reporting include the uncovering of the Zora trademark before anybody else reported on the coming of a mid-engine Corvette, as well as the dead-accurate reporting of the coming of the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2, two years before it hit the market, and even before the debut of the concept vehicle. This type of reporting has immediately continued here, with reports of the original seventh-generation Camaro plans being shelved, as well as what's in store for the Chevrolet Silverado.

Some of his work can be found on massive automotive media outlets, such as Motor1. He also has been a guest on the 910AM Radio Station with Detroit News auto critic Henry Payne, as well as the enthusiast-oriented Camaro Show podcast.

Over the years, Manoli has interviewed various automotive industry titans, leaders, and people that make things happen otherwise. These include figureheads such as GM CEO Mary Barra, GM President Mark Reuss, automotive aftermarket icon Ken Lingenfelter, Dodge firebrand Tim Kuniskis, along with various chief engineers of vehicles such as the Ford F-150 & Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro & Corvette, and many more.

At MC&T, Manoli is taking his journalism expertise, deeply planted sources, driving abilities, and automotive industry knowledge to new levels, covering more vehicles and brands than ever before. This is the place where you will continue to read groundbreaking stories about American performance vehicles, pickup trucks, and sport utility vehicles. Here is where you’ll also read insights and quotes from various automotive subject matter experts on the latest relevant products, as well as some of the latest official news from their manufacturers.

Fun facts: he also once beat Corvette Racing driver Tommy Milner in an autocross with a Chevrolet Bolt EV. The biggest vehicle he’s ever driven is a John Deere mining truck. Besides a go-kart, the smallest vehicle he’s driven has been a Hyundai i10. He’s also spent time in the cockpit of various American performance vehicle icons, including the fifth-generation Chevrolet Camaro Z/28, Dodge Challenger Demon, and Ford Mustang GT350R. He has reviewed dozens of trucks, SUVs, and performance vehicles over the years.

One of his favorite new vehicles on the market today happens to be the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison. He is also a card carrying member of the Sports Car Club of America, and regularly participates in Detroit Region autocross events.
