SOMEBODY IS GIVING THIS C8 CORVETTE A C2-INSPIRED MAKEOVER

Ever Wanted To See A Mid-Engined C2 Corvette?

The Chevrolet C2 Corvette is arguably one of the most iconic Corvettes ever to reach the marketplace. There are many fans of the classic version of the car. Still, we doubt there would be many that would want to take a C8 Corvette Stingray and redesign the body style to resemble that of the C2, which is precisely what one owner in Austin, Texas has decided to do.

Adding Retro Styling To A C8 Corvette

As of right now, it’s challenging to get your hands on a Chevrolet Corvette Stingray amid demand that overpowers supply along with severe storms that have battered the Bowling Green Assembly plant in Kentucky. Some may be absolutely appalled to see what this owner is doing to their C8 Corvette. However, we think it’s turning out quite spectacularly. Builder Jack Wendel has shared photos found on Reddit that shows the C8 Corvette Stingray fitted with custom body panels inspired by the C2 Corvette. The vehicle’s rear has also been modified with custom round taillights and cutouts for the pop-up headlights, inspired by the C2 Corvette.

According to CarScoops, the build will run an estimated $100,000 USD.

One obvious problem with the current custom components covering the side is that they cover the air intakes, which could create cooling issues once the build is finished. But according to the user that shared the images on Reddit, the owner has experience building custom Corvettes. They apparently have converted a C5 into a C1 which can be seen in the background of one of the images. Still, the build gives us an idea of what the C2 might have looked like if Chevrolet had decided to switch to a mid-engine platform earlier in Corvette’s history.

It’s hard to tell how the build will turn out once complete, but so far, it looks pretty impressive, and transforming a mid-engine Stingray into a C2 is most certainly an ambitious project to undertake. Of course, most people would test the modifications out on a junk car rather than a new vehicle, but you make do with what you have.

Zac's love for cars started at a young age, after seeing the popular Eleanor from Gone In 60 Seconds. From there, fascination and enthusiasm blossomed and to this day the Ford Mustang remains a favorite. His first job started out detailing cars, but also provided the opportunity to work on restoration including an 1968 Ford Mustang, Pontiac Firebird, and a C3 Corvette, though he left that job before further work and experience could be had. From there, he was a detailer at a car dealership before quitting that job to try and finish college.

Much of his free time while studying was spent watching YouTube videos regarding new cars, or off-roading. 4WD247 is a personal favorite channel which rekindled a dying flame in car enthusiasm, now tailored towards trucks and SUVs and the fun that can be had building up an overlanding rig, and going on adventures, though, that chapter remains unwritten for the time being.
