Chevrolet Camaro Heist Police Chase

Recently, the Lansing Grand River Assembly plant has had a few heists, as thieves have been targeting the Chevrolet Camaro. The most recent one, which took place early Monday morning, resulted in a high-speed chase through Oakland County and involved police troopers, other departments, and a helicopter. The stolen vehicles were valued at around $375,000 USD.

Police Chase Down 7 Stolen Camaros

According to the Detroit Free Press, the authorities are still sorting out exactly what happened, but there could have been as many as seven stolen Camaros, with some being clocked at over 100 mph. Authorities were ready for the thieves since cars had been stolen from the Lansing GM plant for the past two years. Police stated that they had also used road spikes to stop at least one of the cars. The car thieves separated into at least two groups. Troopers in Lansing started the pursuit, heading along Interstate 96 near Brighton.

More troopers and local agencies got involved as the stolen Chevrolet Camaros raced along the interstate from Kensignton Road to M5, through Lyon, Wixom, Novi, and Farmington Hills. Troopers from Lansing, Brighton, Taylor, a canine unit, the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, and a helicopter and drones chased after the drivers. By the conclusion of the Fast and Furious heist, there were no injuries to the public, troopers, or suspects.

General Motors spokesman Dan Flores stated that the automaker would pursue prosecuting the people involved in stealing the cars. Last August, three vehicles were stolen from the Camaro plant, and in March, GM confirmed that some cars were stolen as well. They worked with local law enforcement and reviewed its security procedures to press charges against the thieves. From what we know, this was the first heist that took place that resulted in a five-star police chase. 9 were arrested.

GM is working with local law enforcement to recover the stolen vehicles. In addition, they will be enhancing the security at the plant and the surrounding parking lots to hopefully prevent a repeat.

Zac's love for cars started at a young age, after seeing the popular Eleanor from Gone In 60 Seconds. From there, fascination and enthusiasm blossomed and to this day the Ford Mustang remains a favorite. His first job started out detailing cars, but also provided the opportunity to work on restoration including an 1968 Ford Mustang, Pontiac Firebird, and a C3 Corvette, though he left that job before further work and experience could be had. From there, he was a detailer at a car dealership before quitting that job to try and finish college.

Much of his free time while studying was spent watching YouTube videos regarding new cars, or off-roading. 4WD247 is a personal favorite channel which rekindled a dying flame in car enthusiasm, now tailored towards trucks and SUVs and the fun that can be had building up an overlanding rig, and going on adventures, though, that chapter remains unwritten for the time being.
