GMC Hummer EV Overlander Concept: Details
Working with EarthCruiser’s research and design division, ECI (EarthCruiser Innovations), and informed by their extensive experience in the field, GMC is collaborating in the design and development process for a next-generation overland upfit solution for electric vehicles that will be integrated into the Hummer EV pickup. Of course, traveling long distances without a charging station in an EV is a serious concern. Still, the teaser image shows the solution may be solar power, as the truck bed is equipped with a hard shell, and solar panels stretch over the entirety of the roof. Whether this kind of application can charge the massive Ultium battery packs found underneath the Hummer EV remains to be seen, but we’ll have to wait for the concept to debut to find out the purpose of these solar panels.

The collaboration will leverage EarthCrusier’s renowned engineering expertise in the overland and off-road vehicle development space, proven through its successful EC Terranova, EarthCruiser EXP, and FX overland vehicles lineup, as well as its CORE line. GMC and EarthCruiser have come together in their shared vision to develop top-tier, zero-compromise adventure vehicles, leveraging EarthCruiser’s engineering technologies, resulting in unique and innovative self-contained living habitats while keeping capability and agility at the forefront. This points towards the solar panels being used to power utilities rather than charging the Hummer EV on the go.
The GMC Hummer EV overlander concept will be unveiled in late summer of 2023, which should shed some light on what’s in the works.
