Will It Be Called The H-EV?

There’s a lot of excitement surrounding Hummer’s rebirth as an all-electric truck and SUV sub-brand inside GMC. The truck should be immensely capable, with many trendy features. We’ve expected a few more details on the Hummer EV to trickle out before it’s revealed this fall, tiding us over. and a trademark filing uncovered by The Drive gives us a sneak look at what might be another Hummer EV logo.

Hummer EV

Filed in both the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) and the Uniter States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), the logo can be applied to: “motor land vehicles; bicycles; apparatus for locomotion by land.” While General Motors hasn’t confirmed this logo, all signs point to this becoming the badge for the all-new Hummer.

This naming scheme falls into line for the brand, too. Mid-2000s Hummer had the H1, H2 and H3 in their lineup, so calling the new model H EV or H-EV makes total sense. Just the same, it could be the fender badge that just happens to be styled this way.

Still, given the fact GM hasn’t announced anything about this badge, it could just be there so nobody else uses it. It’s also interesting that GM listed bicycles in the possible application. Maybe they will sell an electric dirt bike to go along with your Hummer EV, and fit it neatly in the bed?

No matter what happens with the name, the new Hummer will be a seriously wild machine. First, it’ll be a big and heavy beast, yet it’s estimated 1,000 hp will rocket the behemoth to 60 mph in just 3 seconds flat. That will only be the top of the line, three motor Ultium battery powered model, however. Cheaper dual and single motor models will also be offered. Different driving modes, such as Adrenaline Mode and Crab Mode, will be offered. It’s unclear if any of them require a specific powertrain, though.

Additionally, GM will offer the Hummer in either a pickup with a rather small bed, or an SUV. We don’t know if both will be available at the same time yet, but we have seen teaser images of both. No matter the configuration, it’ll have removable doors and roof panels, and a front trunk for extra storage.

Stay tuned for the full reveal this fall.
