One Of The Many Downsides To Being President

In case you didn’t hear, Joe Biden has held the title of President of the United States for a few weeks, and although he’s certainly had a busy start to the job, there’s one common task he won’t have to put up with during his term. That’s driving, as the simple act of piloting a car to a destination has long been deemed too risky for the President of the United States. For Joe Biden, however, that may hurt just a little bit more, as he’s a proud owner of a classic 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible.

We’ve known President Biden is a car guy for a while, even if his information has been a bit spotty, but his own Corvette is something special. His father used to own a car dealership, and gifted him his prized 1967 Chevrolet Corvette for his wedding with his first wife, Neilia. That Corvette, a convertible painted in classy Goodwood green with a chocolate brown interior, remains in the family today, and is mostly original. It’s also got the 327 V8 and desirable four speed manual.

At some point in the Corvette’s life, President Biden’s sons had the engine rebuilt as a Christmas gift, but as far as we know, everything else is stock. It’s a special car that means a lot to Biden, and he won’t be driving it for a long time.

In a 2016 video, then Vice President Joe Biden took his Corvette for a spin with Jay Leno, which you can watch below. After doing a ceremonious burnout at the beginning, he told Leno that the drive was only his third time behind the wheel of any car in the past seven years. For the Secret Service to feel comfortable with the stunt, they even had to take him to an undisclosed location with no civilian traffic.

Our favorite moment of the clip? When Biden says, “I shouldn’t say this, but I like speed.”

Hopefully President Biden got some good drives in his Corvette during the Trump Presidency, because he’s entering another stint of not being allowed behind the wheel.

  1. 63-67 Vettes are C2, not C3 as described above.

I’m glad to see a car guy in the White House, but I fear that his policies are going to be detrimental to the hobby.

    • That’s what happens with socialism. They set the rules that only WE will have to live by. THEY will continue as normal.
