Rivian has been coming up with all sorts of interesting ideas to improve the customer experience before the launch of the electric R1T and R1S, such as a unique customer servicing process. Most recently, the new-age automaker has announced an in-house insurance company. Similar services can be found at both Tesla (Tesla Insurance) and General Motors, via OnStar Insurance.
The idea is pretty simple. As you order your R1T pickup or R1S SUV, you can sign up for Rivian Insurance, eliminating the need to go to a third party company after you purchase the vehicle. It streamlines another aspect of car buying into a singular process under one company, as already seen through vehicle servicing.

It’s smart, too. Use Rivian’s Driver + safety system, and Rivian Insurance will give you discounts over time for safe driving. And even though Rivian calls the R1T and R1S “Electric Adventure Vehicles” and encourages owners to use them off-road, they understand many won’t ever go off the pavement. But the new service covers off-roading no matter what, which is something you’ll struggle to find with traditional car insurance.

Rivian Insurance will even cover things outside of your R1S or R1T. If you have any official Rivian accessories, like the extremely cool Camp Kitchen, they can be added to the insurance plan. And it goes even further than that. Rivian is working with other providers to allow Rivian owners to insure their home, vehicles, boats and more under the Rivian Insurance umbrella. The goal is for owning a Rivian to be a good experience because of the vehicle, but also because of everything that comes with it.
Rivian Insurance will be available on all vehicles when you go to purchase it, and will be available in 40 states initially.
