The creation of the Corvette Z06 is a technological marvel with its record-breaking engine and excellent capability that can put cars significantly more expensive to shame around a track. But that said, how well does it do against the vehicles it was focused on, the Ferrari 458 Italia, what General Motors used as their test vehicle to help bring the Corvette Z06 to life, and the car that it more directly competes against on the market, the Porsche 911 GT3. Top Gear decided to test each one to find out how well the Z06 steps up to the plate against German engineering and the Italian car that has made a name for itself as one of the best supercars to be built by Ferrari.

Corvette Z06 Vs. Ferrari 458 Vs. Porsche GT3: Details

Despite being the benchmark for the Corvette Z06, Top Gear Magazine’s Ollie Marriage stated that he believes the Ferrari 458 retains its status of having the most exciting engine. That comes down to getting that exciting engine sound from the vehicle, regardless of the RPM. Meanwhile, during the test drive, it was stated that the Z06 has an engine drone at lower RPMs, and once the LT6 engine reaches around 4,000 RPM, the drone goes away and brings about that thrilling sound we all love.

That said, that does not make for the final verdict from Marriage; yes, the engine may sound awesome throughout the entirety of driving the car. But it’s time the Ferrari is given a fond farewell. During this comparison, the Porsche GT3 and Corvette Z06 make their way to a racetrack to determine the victor.

Check out the video below to watch the cars race around the track and cruise along roads. For now, we’ll highlight the victor, so does the Corvette Z06 stand up to the Porsche GT3 when comparing the driving experience on a racetrack? That answer comes down to preference; the Porsche is firmer when steering, which translates to tighter handling. Meanwhile, the Corvette Z06 is looser in that department. So Marriage prefers the stiffer steering and handling when on the track over the Corvette Z06. However, this model doesn’t have the Z07 package so the verdict may differ with a more track-focused configuration.

Zac's love for cars started at a young age, after seeing the popular Eleanor from Gone In 60 Seconds. From there, fascination and enthusiasm blossomed and to this day the Ford Mustang remains a favorite. His first job started out detailing cars, but also provided the opportunity to work on restoration including an 1968 Ford Mustang, Pontiac Firebird, and a C3 Corvette, though he left that job before further work and experience could be had. From there, he was a detailer at a car dealership before quitting that job to try and finish college.

Much of his free time while studying was spent watching YouTube videos regarding new cars, or off-roading. 4WD247 is a personal favorite channel which rekindled a dying flame in car enthusiasm, now tailored towards trucks and SUVs and the fun that can be had building up an overlanding rig, and going on adventures, though, that chapter remains unwritten for the time being.
