The 30th Speedway Motors Heartland Nationals Presented By BASF is coming up in less than a month and will be hosted at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines. If you’re looking to spend your July 4th weekend in the sun surrounded by hotrods, customs, classics, muscle cars and trucks, Heartland Nationals is the place to be. A highlight of the show will be the Goodguys CPP AutoCross Series. Spectators will have the opportunity to watch former IndyCar driver Robby Unser pilot a custom 1970 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 built by Speedway Motors.

1970 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28: LS7 Under The Hood, And More
This1970 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 is powered by a fully aluminum 427 LS7 with an RHS block and cylinder heads. Mated to the 427 is a 5-speed Tremec TKO-600 transmission modified with dog rings for clutch-less shifts, courtesy of Dederichs Motorsports. The car will be hard to miss. The purple and yellow lightning livery is a salute to Robby Unser’s late father Bobby Unser, who raced the Johnny Lightning Indy car back in 1970.

Robby Unser and the Speedway Motors team have already had an exciting start to the 2021 Goodguys CPP Autocross season. They’ve secured wins at the Scottsdale Spring Nationals and Salt Lake Nationals. More notably, they also won a SCCA Pro Solo National Championship in their respective class.
