While the 2020 C8 Corvette broke on to the scene with a revolutionary mid-engined configuration, it’s been plagued with production issues that have capped how many vehicles are being delivered, and limited the available accessories. Even though the 2021 Corvette Stingray isn’t getting any major updates, given that it’s only the second model year of the car, it’ll bring back some of the accessories that went missing in 2020 and even gain some new ones.
Thanks to information discovered by CorvetteBlogger in a presentation by Corvette Product Manager Harlan Charles and Chief Engineer Tadge Jeuchter, the 2021 ‘Vette will gain many of the accessories seen on the IMSA Pace Car, which previews the upcoming Stingray R. We’ve already known about this special edition, but this indicates some of its options may be available a la carte.
First up is the return of the Carbon Fiber Ground Effects Aero Pack and the High Wing Spoiler. These were briefly available for 2020 cars before supplier issues nixed them, but this report is the first real proof that they could become available later in the year. Both seriously ramp up the aggression of the C8, adding to the already exotic looks. Other previewed accessories include the Racing Jake skull hood stripe, red engine cover, Racing Jake wheel center caps, and red mirrors.
If you put all these accessories and parts together, you have the upcoming Corvette Stingray R package, that may look exactly like the pace car. The fact it says “Stingray R” on the extended front splitter is about all the proof we need.
But what this presentation and Harlan Charles’ comments hint at is at least the High Wing and Carbon Aero Pack will be available as standalone options for non-Stingray R 2021 Chevrolet Corvette models. The graphics packages could also be available a la carte, as Charles said all of these items are supposedly coming soon.
We will have to wait for an official announcement from GM to know what accessories will be available standalone, and which can only be optioned on the Stingray R. Still, this new information coming all but confirms such an announcement is imminent.
still a plastic car
I can’t find the high wing option when I’m building a c8. It’s on the visualizer, but not the builder.
Thanks for the note, James. We’ll do some digging and see what we can find!
