Thanks To A Little Bit Of Hacking

Other than telling us that the Bronco will have over 200 accessories available when it hits the showroom, Ford has been coy about the details. Well, one Bronco6G forum user was able to use their hacking skills to sneak a peek at some images of the 2021 Ford Bronco tube doors on the vehicle’s official build page. These accessories are not unlike the ones seen in USPTO filings from last year.

The image was one of hundreds that user 72roadster was able to dig up before the Blue Oval was able to close down access on the website. It shows a four-door Bronco First Edition rocking a set of tube doors placed over the standard units. While this looks rather goofy, we’re sure the tube doors are meant to be used when the others are stored away. MC&T reported on the possibility of a tube door accessory back in August 2019, when Ford first filed a patent for a removable door design.

A key part of that patent pertained to an inflatable safety device, or an airbag if you will, which was designed to be mounted to tubular doors. This is something that is not available from the Mopar accessory bin, and would certainly add an air of safety to the off-roading staple. That said, there is no telling if the doors depicted in the image employ this system, and Ford has made no mention of the feature at this point.

The Ford Bronco is coming after the Jeep Wrangler in the segment it has dominated for decades. The accessory market surrounding the Wrangler is massive, which is something Ford knows it’ll need to counter. These tube doors are our first look at the automakers efforts to give buyers that added bit of customizability they expect from an off-roading 4×4.
