Despite the online configurator for the 2022 Corvette model year having only just been activated, the 2022 Corvette IMSA GTLM Championship Editions have already nearly been sold out, with over half of their 1,000 planned C8.R Special Editions already ordered. Corvette Production Manager Harlan Charles released this news from his What’s New With Corvette seminar at the National Corvette Museum’s 27th Anniversary Celebration.

The 2022 IMSA GTLM Championship Editions are the first special editions of the C8 era, celebrating the Drivers, Team, and Manufacturers Titles earned by Corvette Racing’s C8.R during the 2020 season. Chevy showcased three of the four possible configurations of the C8.R Special Editions at the National Corvette Museum.

Corvette Blogger shared more details on the numbers for the C8 Special Edition, with over 412 orders placed, 52.5% being Convertibles, and 47.5% are Coupes. With 65% of the orders being Hypersonic Gray, it was the more requested color, and 35% being the Accelerate Yellow. The numbers for the Special Edition could indicate what this year could look like between the Convertibles and the Coupes since last year saw the highest Convertible sales numbers since 1969.

Pricing for the C8.R Special Edition cars requires the 3LT trim package, the Z51 Performance Package($6,345), and the IMSA GTLM Special Edition package ($6,595) to place the MSRP of the Coupe at $87,085 and the Convertible at $94,085. With just the 3LT trim, the prices are $12,940 cheaper. Buyers can also add the Carbon Fiber 5VM aero kit for $4,445. Some manufacturers don’t allow for specific options when purchasing different packages, but you can still get the E60 front lift or the FE4 Magnetic Selective Ride Control with the Special Edition.

Each 2022 Corvette IMSA GTLM Championship Edition is numbered with a plaque inside the car showing which of the 1,000 units the consumer owns, which gives people more bragging rights on top of the already racing-oriented Corvette design.

Zac's love for cars started at a young age, after seeing the popular Eleanor from Gone In 60 Seconds. From there, fascination and enthusiasm blossomed and to this day the Ford Mustang remains a favorite. His first job started out detailing cars, but also provided the opportunity to work on restoration including an 1968 Ford Mustang, Pontiac Firebird, and a C3 Corvette, though he left that job before further work and experience could be had. From there, he was a detailer at a car dealership before quitting that job to try and finish college.

Much of his free time while studying was spent watching YouTube videos regarding new cars, or off-roading. 4WD247 is a personal favorite channel which rekindled a dying flame in car enthusiasm, now tailored towards trucks and SUVs and the fun that can be had building up an overlanding rig, and going on adventures, though, that chapter remains unwritten for the time being.
