Anyone buying the 2023 Corvette Z06 isn’t doing so to save gasoline, just as one driving a GMC Hummer EV isn’t looking to be the most efficient with electricity. A 5.5L DOHC V8 with an 8,600 RPM redline has that effect. But learning about a supercar’s MPG tends to be an amusing pastime, and the 2023 C8 Corvette Z06 fuel economy is no different.
2023 Corvette Z06: Fuel Economy Details
Corvette Blogger recently spoke with Corvette Vehicle Chief Engineer Josh Holder at Corvettes at Carlisle and got an insight into the fuel economy ratings. Holder stated that the final numbers had been submitted to the EPA. The 2023 Corvette Z06 ratings are 12 mpg in the city and 19/21 on the Highway. The 19 mpg results from the aero package (Z07), but if you get the base trim, 21 will be your number. The combined mpg rating is 14/15 (base/Z07), which is pretty much what one would expect with such a superb vehicle.

With those numbers, the tax for the 2023 Z06 came in at $2,600 for the base model and $3,000 for the Z06s equipped with the Z07 package. The automaker conducts its own test, and the testing agency can request a vehicle to do it themselves. They usually request to test a car when it’s brand-new, like the Z06, but honestly, if allowed to drive around in a Corvette Z06 for free. Who wouldn’t take up the opportunity?
For comparison’s sake, we can look at previous high-performance Corvette models. It looks like the 2023 Corvette Z06 is in good company as its ratings are similar to that of the 2019 Corvette ZR1 with the 8-speed automatic transmission. In 2019, Chevrolet combined the ZR1s ZTK and low wing models, and the tests were differentiated based on the transmission. However, for the 2023 Z06, Chevrolet intentionally split the model into the base and Z07 configurations so that those wanting the base car would at least get a slight discount on the gas guzzler tax compared to the total of $3,000 if they were combined.
