Chevrolet has recently announced that it will sell a 2024 Silverado EV Work Truck (WT) with a long range battery pack featuring an EPA-estimated range of 450 miles on a full charge, which is 130 miles more than the Ford F-150 Lightning with an optional long range battery. The original GM estimate for the Silverado EV was 400 miles.
With this news, Chevrolet has also announced that the Silverado EV WT will arrive with two range specs for fleet buyers. Available this spring (which is until June 20), the version with the EPA-estimated estimated 450 miles at a full charge will be available. This is known as the Silverado EV 4WT.
Soon after, the Silverado EV WT with a GM-estimated 350 miles of range on a full charge will begin shipping out. This is the one that Chevrolet has priced from $39,000 USD, and is available exclusively for fleet customers, at first. Then, production on the Silverado EV RST First Edition will start in the fall, which starts at $105,000 USD.
Update: Chevrolet has clarified that while there is a “price leader” truck on the way, the 350-mile Silverado EV 3WT will be priced around $72,905 plus an $1,895 destination charge. The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV 3WT will be exclusive to fleet buyers. The “$39,000” Silverado EV is being price adjusted, and details on range, capabilities and SOP are not immediately available.
2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV WT With 450 Mile Range: Details
Over the past few months, extensive development and testing unlocked the increased 450-mile range. Exactly what Chevrolet did to accomplish this is unclear, but we accept. Given that the truck is also equipped to charge at a rate of 350 kW, there should be even less downtime for work while charging.
The 2024 Silverado EV WT shares many of the baseline features with the RST but without the headlining numbers. Using GM’s Ultium EV battery technology already employed beneath the GMC Hummer EV, the Silverado EV WT offers 510 horsepower and 615 lb-ft of torque, with the capacity to tow 8,000 lbs. A 20,000-pound tow package will eventually be offered.
That’s not all, however, as we asked if the pricing would be like for for the Silverado EV with the long range battery pack, and we were told that the 450-mile-of-range version would have an MSRP of $77,905, excluding the destination charge.
What Kind Of Trucks Could You Get For Over $77,000?
Since it’s the Silverado EV WT with the optional long range battery is marketed as a work truck, here are a few other Chevrolet work trucks that money can get you…
$77-grand will get you 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD WT Single Cab with the L8T gas V8 engine ($45,295 USD, 14,500 lbs towing) with enough money leftover to grab a new Chevrolet Colorado WT ($30,695 USD, and tows almost as much as the Silverado EV) midsized truck, as well. You could have two very capable Chevrolet work trucks for the price of one Silverado EV WT with the long range battery pack.
$77,000 USD can also get you a new 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 HD LTZ, in a dually configuration with the L5P Duramax diesel V8 engine that can tow 20,000 lbs from a ball hitch, and over 30,000 lbs with a gooseneck. Lastly, for fun, it can get you a Chevrolet Silverado 1500 ZR2, which now runs at $73,095 USD with destination.
Of course, these ICE Chevrolet trucks don’t have the federal tax credit incentives that the Silverado EV does, which would bring the sticker down to just under $70-grand. With that in mind, the more direct comparison is of course the Ford F-150 Lightning. Even with the optional long range battery, which is over $10,000, the F-150 Lightning is rated at an EPA-estimated maximum range 320 miles. And it’s priced from $78,874 USD at the moment.
So, compared to the F-150 Lightning with the optional long range battery, the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV with the long range battery is a steal. But you’ve gotta really want an electric truck.
