The 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse Build and Price tool has had a few issues that may have confused customers attempting to piece together their dream muscle car. For example, the base Dark Horse had leather seats, while the premium option had cloth seats, which doesn’t make much sense considering that leather is a more premium feature found within cars, but it looks like they fixed that. On top of that, Ford has added the carbon fiber wheel options for the Dark Horse, which we knew would be available, but beyond that, it wasn’t added to the configurator.
2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse: Details
According to the updated build and price configurator, the 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse Carbon Fiber Wheels cost $8,995 on their own, though, as with most configurators, the option requires another package to be equipped, and that’s the handling package, which has an MSRP of $4,995. That means that customers who want the carbon fiber wheels will be shelling out an extra $13,990 on top of the overall price for the rest of their Dark Horse build. On top of that, the carmine red seats now appear to be brighter through the configurator than they are in person, which may deter some buyers from opting for them. Additionally, the drift brake no longer appears in the interior photos, and customers no longer have the option to enlarge the images to get an even better view of their masterful creations.
Check all the boxes, and the new S650 Ford Mustang Dark Horse will run you over $91,000 USD. Making it not only the most-powerful non-Shelby Mustang ever (500 hp), but also far and away the most expensive non-Shelby ever. Keep in mind, $91k would have gotten you in an optioned out 760 hp S550 GT500 just a generation ago. And that muscle car… that one was special.
Luckily, it doesn’t appear that the configurator update has incorporated more price hikes to the MSRP, yet. However, we’re sure many customers of the ultimate Ford Mustang will be facing some markup on their cars. There are countless examples of the 2024 Ford Mustang getting hit with markups ranging from $5,000 TO $10,000. It’s not great to see, but it doesn’t deter customers by any means, as Ford has recently revealed during a Q3 2023 sales announcement that 2024 Mustang units have been selling within six days of arriving at dealerships.
The S650 Ford Mustang Dark Horse features brake cooling NACA ducts, an auxiliary engine oil cooler, a rear axle cooler, and a unique and lightweight radiator with improved cooling capacity and more robust cooling fans. That’s only part of it, as the muscle car also features MagnaRide dampers, a Ford Performance-designed strut tower brace, and a K-brace for even better handling and feedback. What’s more? It has the most potent Coyote V8 engine ever, with around 500 horsepower at the driver’s disposal. Combined with the carbon fiber wheels, a car will undoubtedly pull you into the seat when accelerating through the gears.
