C8 CORVETTE Z06 NURBURGRING TIME UNOFFICIALLY CLOCKED BY CAR SPOTTER

The New Z06 Throttled The ‘Ring, Even In Traffic

Despite the Corvette engineering team having finished their Nurburgring testing at the end of August, there are still videos emerging featuring the 2023 Corvette Z06 on the Nurburgring as well as entering and leaving the Chevrolet garage, but this time, we get an unofficial lap time for the Z06. And we do mean unofficial.

Speed records at the Nurburgring hover well below the 7-minute mark, and if a manufacturer happens to surpass that barrier, it’s a pretty big deal. Currently, that leaderboard is decorated by Porsche and Lamborghini. But not if GM and the 2023 Corvette Z06 have anything to say about it.

The Unofficial Lap Times

Carspotter Jeroen posted a YouTube video showing the testing of the C8 Corvette Z06 in both base and Z07 Package equipment, and the video also offers some unofficial timing. And here’s where it gets exciting.

According to the stopwatch, the base C8 Corvette Z06 ran 8:18.06, with the Z07 achieving 7:12.64 around the Nürburgring Nordschleife. In heavy traffic

In optimal conditions, it’s hard not to see the new Z06 beating the Porsche 911 GT3 around the track, and cracking into the Nürburgring lap time leaderboard. Expectations are that it’s going to happen. The Corvette program is backed by industry-leading chassis engineers using a platform that’s optimized for superior power delivery and weight distribution compared to before. Such is the nature of a mid-rear engine orientation. And with a screaming, fire spitting 5.5L LT6 V8 engine in the 2023 Corvette Z06 that’s poised to break some records, including being the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 engine as it surpasses 600 horsepower, nobody should be surprised if we see the first American-made supercar to officially cross the seven-minute barrier and into the sixes.

We’ll know more when the 2023 Corvette Z06 debuts next month.

Zac's love for cars started at a young age, after seeing the popular Eleanor from Gone In 60 Seconds. From there, fascination and enthusiasm blossomed and to this day the Ford Mustang remains a favorite. His first job started out detailing cars, but also provided the opportunity to work on restoration including an 1968 Ford Mustang, Pontiac Firebird, and a C3 Corvette, though he left that job before further work and experience could be had. From there, he was a detailer at a car dealership before quitting that job to try and finish college.

Much of his free time while studying was spent watching YouTube videos regarding new cars, or off-roading. 4WD247 is a personal favorite channel which rekindled a dying flame in car enthusiasm, now tailored towards trucks and SUVs and the fun that can be had building up an overlanding rig, and going on adventures, though, that chapter remains unwritten for the time being.
