DODGE DURANGO HELLCAT IS A HOMEBREW PERFORMANCE SUV

An Enthusiast Found Just What The Durango SRT May Have Been Missing

Dodge Durango

There has never been a time where automotive performance was as abundant as it is today, regardless of the type of vehicle. Manufacturers seem to be pumping out evermore intense versions of their SUV models and trucks to sit alongside their performance cars like it’s going out of style. If there is one brand synonymous with performance vehicles right now it is Dodge, due largely in part to their Hellcat variants of the Charger and Challenger muscle cars. FCA currently doesn’t offer a Hellcat version of the aging Dodge Durango, but that didn’t stop True Street Performance from fashioning their own.

This Durango Hellcat packs the famed 6.2L supercharged V8 engine under a Dodge Demon-inspired hood, making 700-plus horsepower in this application. This particular Durango appears to have started life as the current range topping SRT variant, which comes standard with a naturally aspirated 6.4-liter V8 that produces 475 hp and 470 pound-feet of torque mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Thanks to the big V8 up front, the SRT Durango has a towing capacity of up to 8,700 pounds. While those are certainly healthy figures, they don’t quite stack up to those offered by the hellacious supercharged unit.

While the video doesn’t offer up much in the way of details about this build, our ears tell us that their might be an aftermarket exhaust system fitted to this Dodge Durango, which should help in letting people know what is under the hood.

The Dodge Durango SRT is already a great option for someone looking for a family hauler that also hauls ass, and we love the idea of a Hellcat powertrain finding its way between the fenders. FCA stablemate Jeep currently offers a Hellcat powered variant of the Grand Cherokee by way of the Trackhawk model, so it seems like there is room in the market for a proper Hellcat Dodge Durango.
