Imagine being alerted when someone is reaching over the tailgate of your pickup truck to snag your favorite tool bag. Imagine you’re able to notify law enforcement immediately and verbally warn the criminal they are being monitored. Now you can, with Ford’s new theft deterrent system, Canopy.

Ford and ADT have partnered up to bring a new theft deterrent to Ford vehicles starting in 2023. Utilizing artificial intelligence, a self installable system, and onboard cameras of future Ford vehicles the new theft deterrent “Canopy” should give Ford truck owners a little more peace of mind, knowing their assets are protected. While there are not a lot of pricing details right now, a press release reveals the system could be subscription based and be available for both Ford commercial and consumer product lines and will add on other manufacturers further down the road. The new security system will employ acoustic sensors for vans, onboard cameras, radar, LTE, and GPS to provide maximum efficiency in protecting your vehicles and what they may be carrying.

The security system will utilize an app and send alerts when criminal activity is detected. Livestream video from on-board cameras, accessed via the app, will provide a real time look as to what is happening to your vehicle and will also allow for reviewing previous events. Customers using Canopy will also be able to communicate to potential thieves using the app as well, as it will feature a two-way audio component. Artificial intelligence will be able to differentiate between criminal acts and the more trivial kind such as a bird landing on your roof of your F-150. The system will alert ADT professionals if it detects a break in.

This is a first of its kind of technology for the industry, and Ford truck buyers will probably be all over this one. The Canopy products will be available through Ford dealers, online and major retail stores next year.
