Ford has just refreshed the Ford F-150 for the 2024 model year, and by now, it’s pretty clear the full-size pickup has some pretty neat features that make sense, especially considering that it is the best-selling vehicle in the country. That title means that the F-150 often finds itself on the “most-stolen” lists due to so many on the road, though Ford has decided to take its security to a new level to give customers extra piece of mind for their $35,000-$112,000 investments.
2024 Ford F-150 Stolen Vehicle Services: Details
The new theft deterrent system on the 2024 Ford F-150 is called “Stolen Vehicle Services.” Despite the uncreative name, it adds several triggers that will notify your Ford Pass app. The triggers range from something as simple as a GPS-based trigger telling you that your truck is being towed away to an accelerometer letting you know someone is jacking up your vehicle to steal your wheels. From there, Ford will give you shortcuts or hotkeys via the app to contact the relevant authorities to ensure emergency services can capture the would-be thieves. Additionally, Ford’s call center will work with authorities to provide the location information for the truck and keep the owner updated throughout. Of course, by the time your vehicle is obtained, if someone’s making a run with it, you’ll either be missing parts or it’ll be wrecked, but at least you can say you tried.
The package also alerts you if someone bumps into your 2024 F-150, reaches past an open window to open a door, triggers any diagnostic trouble code within the vehicle, or tries to factory reset the car via the infotainment system. That means that customers will now need to provide dual-factor authentication to factory reset a truck; otherwise, a thief could do so if they manage to turn the truck on. So, there’s lots of peace of mind if you opt for the package.
If this sounds a lot like Tesla‘s Sentry Mode, it might be similar, though it’s not a copy, as Tesla offers live cameras that allow owners to watch via an app. This is how we have so many videos of people keying the cars for no apparent reason. That said, this suite of features will help deter and stop more thieves than the current security system does. This is an option, so if you’re interested, be sure to add it when placing your order through the dealership or F-150 online configurator. And we bet Ford might be able to save a few trucks from getting stolen from assembly plant grounds or holding facilities in the process.
