The 2024 Jeep Gladiator refresh was just revealed, visually reflecting what we see in the latest version of the JL Jeep Wrangler. However, despite the significant upgrades to safety features, capability, and tech, we couldn’t help but notice that the highly anticipated 4xe powertrain was not listed as an option for the Gladiator. Instead, all customers are funneled into a 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine that delivers 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. However, despite not having the 4xe plug-in hybrid powertrain yet, it’s still on the way for the midsize truck, possibly delayed for the 2025 model year.
Where Is The Jeep Gladiator 4xe?
Jeep brand boss Jim Morrison confirmed to attending media that while the plug-in hybrid Gladiator 4xe wasn’t revealed as part of the 2024 update, it is still in the works. Jeep has been “very public that by 2025 we will electrify the whole range, so by deduction, it’s coming.”
The Gladiator is a niche product in the world of midsize pickup trucks, with an assortment of more familiar options like the Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, Ford Ranger, and Toyota Tacoma. Of all of them, the Gladiator is the only truck with a live front axle, removable doors, and available 37-inch tires. In short, it’s a lifestyle truck, while the others make room for vocational mass appeal with their base models.

A plug-in hybrid is poised to be highly successful thanks to the high torque numbers that will make it an excellent replacement for the diesel Gladiator that will be discontinued. And if the 2025 Jeep Gladiator 4xe is powered by the same PHEV system currently under the hood of the Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe models, it would have 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. The latter figure matches what’s in the Jeep Wrangler powered by the Hemi V8. Not only that, but the 4xe powertrain allows the JL Wrangler to travel 21 miles purely on electricity and has given the vehicle an EPA rating of 49 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe). In other words, it should save customers some cash in the long run as opposed to the gas-hungry Hemi. That is if you take the time to charge up the battery every day.
