The current pickup trucks on the market are a far cry from the simple machine that they once were. The trucks of today are more refined than their ancestors, and come packed with tech features that rival what’s on offer from Germany’s luxury automakers. America’s truck manufacturers have also found ways to improve on the basics of truck design with the introduction of multifunction tailgates and other ease-of-use upgrades. Continuing this trend, Mopar have just released their new bed step for the line of Ram Trucks.
The news comes by way of an FCA press release, which states that this new retractable center-mounted bed step was specifically designed to work alongside the Ram 1500’s multifunction tailgate. No longer a simple drop down affair, the Ram’s new tailgate offers 60/40 split swing-away doors that open to a wide 88 degrees, which makes loading and cleaning the bed much easier according to FCA. The new Mopar accessory is easy to activate, as you simply push down on it with your foot until it locks into place. Once you’re done, the step folds back up and hides away by the rear bumper. Constructed of high-strength aluminum with a black e-coat finish, the step can support 350 pounds. The MSRP is currently listed at $395.
Mopar hasn’t forgotten about the rest of the Ram Truck lineup however. Should you have a Ram 1500 with a standard tailgate, or any of the Heavy Duty models, Mopar offers a bed step for $360. Ram 1500 Classic owners can order themselves a Mopar bed step, though unlike the others it is only rated for 300 pounds. It does come cheaper however, carrying a price tag of only $304.
The Mopar bed step is just one of over 600 accessories that is available for the Ram Trucks lineup. If there is one thing that FCA buyers can’t complain about, it is access to a wealth of upgrades to make your vehicle unique.
