RICHARD HAMMOND MIDLIFE CRISIS II: RETURN OF THE FORD RANGER RAPTOR

The Aging Grand Tour Host Takes His Daughters For An Off-Road Adventure

Ford Ranger Raptor Richard Hammond

Legendary automotive presenter Richard Hammond has teamed up with Ford to bring us another mid-life crisis adventure involving the Ford Ranger Raptor. In the first video of the series we followed Hammond as he presented the baby Raptor as an alternative to the more traditional mid-life crisis vehicles, all the while chauffeuring some colleagues through a “short-cut” away from the pavement. For this latest installment, Hammond shows off the Ranger Raptor’s ability to handle family duty by popping down to the shops with his teenage daughters.

It is worth noting again that this video series as a paid promotion for the Ford Ranger Raptor, though that doesn’t take away from the fun of the videos. As Hammond mentions early in the clip, the mid-sized Ranger Raptor can easily handle dad-duty, despite the trucks off-road racing inspiration.

That inspiration results in off-roading focused upgrades, which include Fox Racing shocks, 17-inch wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich All-Terrain tires, an electronic locking rear axle lock, underbody guards and fender flares. Under the Baby Raptor’s hood sits a 2.0L turbocharged diesel engine, which produces 213 hp and 368 lb-ft. A Ford 10-speed automatic is the sole transmission option.

Upon arriving to the mall with his disinterested daughters, Hammond finds himself in a familiar situation for many parents, involving waiting for your children to “do their own thing”. While we hate to say that most Ford Ranger Raptor pickup trucks are more likely to spend parked up at a shopping center than on a dirt trail, it is nice to know the hard-core truck can handle the daily grind.

The real fun in the video begins once Hammond’s mind-melting wait comes to a close. With his daughters and their numerous bags of goodies loaded into the Raptor’s seats, Hammond once again announces that he would like to take a short-cut. We won’t spoil the ending of the video for you, but we will say that Hammond’s daughters won’t forget this trip to the shops anytime soon.
